For Teachers: Preparing for a School Visit

Visiting schools is one of the joys of being a children's author. I would be happy to visit you and your students.

    Just a few requests, please.

My visit will be more meaningful to students if they are familiar with some of my work before my visit. My books are available in many libraries and many school libraries subscribe to some of the magazines in which I have published work. Or you can read many of my articles on Digital Maine Library. Scroll down and search for my name under Author.
I prefer to talk to single or combined classes, with a maximum of 45 students at a time. I can do up to 4 school presentations a day. For a larger group, please check with me ahead of time to arrange microphones, etc.
I ask that at least one teacher or aide be in attendance during my presentation.
In some workshops, I like to project digital slides, or show a Powerpoint presentation..
If you plan to include book sales and autographing, please note:
Copies of Cyrus Field's Big Dream can be purchased from any bookstore or ordered through the distributor. Allow 3 weeks for delivery.
I have copies of Captain Mac. Please contact me for details. It is also available as an e-book. A few copies of Ice Country are also available.
Send a notice home with students, so they may come prepared with correct payment if they wish to purchase a book.
On the day of my visit, please provide correct spelling of names for any books to be autographed.
Fees: See Fee Schedule.
